On May 19, 2008, Jay Itkowitz and Michelle Maratto filmed a five-part continuing legal education program for Lawline.com, designed to provide 12 credit hours, half the bi-annual requirement. This program will offer extremely comprehensive instruction on landlord and tenant practice in New York City. On February 28, 2008, the I&H Partners conducted the eighth annual continuing legal education seminar sponsored by Lorman Education Services for real estate attorneys and professionals entitled, "Evictions: Residential and Commercial in New York City." Our syllabus included hot topics such as attorney's fees, post-judgment collections, and toxic mold. Lorman is currently offering the 138-page Reference Manual from the program. The Partners of Itkowitz & Harwood authored a chapter entitled "Overview of Lease Enforcement" for the New York State Bar Association Commercial Leasing Manual. This is a wonderful resource from the New York State Bar Association, edited by Joshua Stein, Esq. It is written from the perspectives of both the landlord and the tenant. On December 16, 2005, Jay B. Itkowitz gave a lecture to Newmark & Company Real Estate, Inc. entitled "Commercials Evictions in New York".
On December 8, 2005, Jay B. Itkowitz gave a lecture to the New York City Bar Center CLE Program entitled "The Fundamentals of Landlord and Tenant Practice in New York City".
On June 6, 2003, Partner Michelle Maratto was part of a Practicing Law Institute panel presenting a continuing legal education seminar on commercial leasing. On April 26, 2002, Partner Michelle A. Maratto was a faculty member at a continuing legal education presentation presented by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, entitled "Introduction to the Deal: What's Involved With a Commercial Real Estate Lease Transaction?" An article by a Partner of Itkowitz & Harwood appeared in the March 2002 issue of The Cooperator entitled "Broker Uses Insider Info to Defraud Clients." The article examined the Department of State's revocation of a broker's license for breaching her fiduciary duty and defrauding her client. The broker had partnered with the purchaser without informing her client; she then disclosed her client's confidential bottom-line price to the purchaser. Another article by a Partner of Itkowitz & Harwood appeared in the February 2002 issue of The Cooperator entitled "Discrimination Lawsuit Proceeds Against Board." The article analyzed a recent New York Supreme Court case which allowed a shareholder to pursue fiduciary duty and discrimination claims against a coop corporation's board of directors.
