I&H Partners Michelle Maratto and Jay Itkowitz are authoring the New York State Bar Association's New York Commercial Landlord and Tenant Law and Procedure Book. The book has been put into production and should be out in 2012.
On October 11, 2011 I&H will be teaching a course which has been approved by the NYS Department of State to provide NYS Licensed Real Estate Brokers with three (3) continuing education credits. This FREE Seminar is titled, "Introduction to Commercial Landlord and Tenant Law", and will be held at our comfortable and conveniently located offices at 305 Broadway. On September 28, 2011 Partner Jay Itkowitz taught a continuing legal education class to a national audience for the Rossdale Group entitled "Mastering Landlord, Tenant, Condo And Co-Op Law". The attendees gave Jay a 5/5 for "overall teaching effectiveness," "effectiveness of teaching materials" and "significant current knowledge of subject." The Second Edition of the New York State Bar Association Commercial Leasing Manual was just published in 2011. The Partners of Itkowitz & Harwood have updated their chapter entitled "Overview of Lease Enforcement", adding more text and charts. The New York State Bar Association Commercial Leasing Manual is a wonderful resource, edited by Joshua Stein, Esq. The manual is written from the perspectives of both the landlord and the tenant. An article by a Partner of Itkowitz & Harwood appeared in the March 2002 issue of The Cooperator entitled "Broker Uses Insider Info to Defraud Clients." The article examined the Department of State's revocation of a broker's license for breaching her fiduciary duty and defrauding her client. The broker had partnered with the purchaser without informing her client; she then disclosed her client's confidential bottom-line price to the purchaser.
