HIRING

WE READ EVERY APPLICATION

We typically get many applications for an associate position. The last time we posted an associate position we got over 1,000 resumes. We read them all. We understand that each application represents someone's time and effort.

If we do not respond to your resume it is not because we do not appreciate your application and your qualifications. The volume of resumes we receive simply makes it untenable to respond to applicants that we are unable to interview.

Michelle Maratto personally handles the attorney recruitment processes. The recruitment of all other professionals is handled by the Director of Human Resources, George Rathbun.

HIRING ATTORNEYS

We typically list open associate positions with 30 law schools on Symplicity and with approximately ten minority bar associations. We consider closely, however, graduates in any of the top 70 or so law schools. We use Leiter's Law School Ranks as our guide to which schools are "top", rather than US News & World Report. Leiter's ranks schools based upon quality of the students and quality of the faculty, and we find these rankings more accurately reflect our personal observations about the schools.

All resumes go through two rounds of preliminary vetting before they are subjected to a detailed analysis using a standardized point system that gives credit for: presentation, academics, writing, moot court, work experience, bar admissions, and other factors. The people we interview invariably have some combination of honors and writing credentials.

The people we hire also usually have some cool extra-curricular or personal attributes, such as: they are a serious chess player, or they are fluent in other languages and are well-traveled, or they used to be in a professional band. Above all else, the people we hire must be ethical professionals and nice people.
